About Homework
Weekly Homework
Weekly homework this year will focus on Greek and Latin word roots. Students will receive a vocabulary list and practice pages every week on Friday (or the last day of the week). On the following Friday, the homework will be due and students will have a short test. The homework itself isn't a grade, but the test will be graded. Digital copies of homework pages and flashcards can be found in my Google Classroom.
Reading
Ideally, students should be reading every night for at least 20 minutes. I say "ideally" because I know schedules can be busy or unpredictable, and building consistent habits can be challenging. What I would like to see is, in a typical 5-day school week, students reading at least 3-4 nights for at least 15-20 minutes. Students can read whatever they want--magazines, books, comics/manga, audiobooks, etc.--as long as they try to read most nights and aren't reading the same few books on repeat. There is a space in their agenda book to record what they read, for how long, and a parent signature. I will do random checks to reward students who are reading regularly.
Other Homework
If we are skipping a week of Greek/Latin roots homework, need to finish classwork for homework, or if there is a project that students need to work on at home, I will make an announcement on Parentsquare and on this website. If we are taking a break from weekly homework, students should still continue reading at home most nights.
